Homeschool-Math

Best Homeschool Math curriculum, how do we choose? There are so many choices out there for us to choose from now. When we began our research for a curriculum we found the best curriculum for our homeschool. However, when we came to the subject of a homeschool math, we did some extra research because I love math and I wanted my children to love it too.

As I looked and worked through the math curriculums that were available to me, I simply began to noticed something. Math is numbers! Numbers don’t change. Two plus two equaled four no matter which math curriculum I chose. Hmmm, so what was I looking for then if it was the same across the board with numbers?

My husband and I narrowed it down to three math curriculums. As we looked at them we saw that they all eventually really got to the same place with the numbers.

One didn’t review at all for six weeks but it was colorful. It was appealing to the eye, but is that all that I wanted? Uh, no! I wanted to be sure my children understood.

The next one we looked at was one I had actually used as a student and loved it because I loved all the problems it had in the assignment. Mind you, I loved math and each problem was like a puzzle waiting to be solved and I was out to solve it.  I like to balance my financials to the penny too.  I am just like that. So I loved this particular math. But, not all of my children were born to love math like me, so I dug a little deeper. I also tutored from this particular math program before I had children and did not like the teacher side of the program at all.

The final one I compared to the previous one in order to get a full picture of what I really wanted. They both presented the material well. They both now have video lessons to help. The one thing that turned me away from one was the story problems. What were they teaching my child? That curriculum is secular and I just wasn’t sure what was going to be taught there.

I reviewed the story problems in the final choice and found that character and real life applications were being taught as well as a biblical worldview. Oh my! All that in addition to math. Wait, there is more. There is critical thinking, and logical and analytical thinking skills woven throughout the curriculum. There you have it! I was sold! My husband and I made our choice for math and never looked back.

Now all four of ours have graduated and moved on to college. As they moved into college where mom and dad were no longer in charge of choosing their curriculum, it was so exciting to see them excel. Math was no different! They were more than prepared for college math. Two of them had a lot of math courses in their majors and the foundation that was laid with BJU Press Math was just the ticket to help them succeed in every class. Our youngest even had the opportunity to CLEP out of College Algebra!  I watched them succeed in calculus, physics, statistics and more.

If you are looking for a math curriculum for your homeschool, I highly recommend that you look at BJU Press Math. Make your choice and stick with it. Please don’t change from year to year in Math. That doesn’t help our children. That simply causes gaps. Do your research. Find what you want for your children. Remember every time you change you are not allowing them to move forward. You are ultimately setting them back. If what you have is not working, then make the change, but stick with the change and don’t look back.
